Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg is the new Formula One ™ World Champion.

Rosberg’s lead in the Championship was big enough that securing second place in a tense Abu Dhabi Grand Prix won by Mercedes team mate Lewis Hamilton was enough to crown himself as new Champion, the third German to do so after Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel.

Hamilton tried everything to defend his title but congratulated Rosberg in the end. „It was so intense, the race, so tough.said Rosberg, who finished runner-up to Hamilton in the past two years.

I am very proud to have done the same feat as my dad achieved.said Rosberg, whose father Keke came to the Abu Dhabi paddock as a surprise after the start of the race and proudly celebrated with his son.

The previous year, Hamilton lost by one point to Ferrari’s Kimi Räikkönen. This time, Rosberg beat him by five.
