Famous “Palais Coburg” new Austrian “home” for Neuschwansteiner
We are excited to announce that we can now offer you a fabulous new location to enjoy Neuschwansteiner in Austria. We are now available at the famous “Palais Coburg” (also known as Palais Saxe-Coburg), a luxury five-star boutique hotel in the first – and best – “Bezirk” (precinct) of Austria’s capital Vienna. Reopened in 2003, it has also quickly become a first-class address for gourmets. Silvio Nickol’s star-awarded restaurant is well known and hailed in the world of culinary experts.
“34 suites, a spa with an indoor pool, two restaurants, two MICHELIN stars, 13 event rooms, a garden, six wine cellars, 60,000 bottles and now Neuschwansteiner”. This is how we could describe only fragments of this incredible Palais which dates back to six centuries of history and is in fact literally based on the medieval city walls of Vienna.
The grand palace, originally designed in 1839 in a neoclassical style, was constructed atop a former bastion, the Braunbastei, whose foundations include sections of the city’s fortifications dating from the sixteenth century. In 1997 a private foundation, the POK Pühringer Privatstiftung, acquired the building. From 2000 to 2003, after several years of planning, they renovated, revitalized, and rebuilt the structure taking into account all available historical information.
On 7 November 2003, the “new” Palais Coburg opened to the public. Six centuries of Viennese architectural history can thus be experienced in one building. The building’s unique historical fabric is also the base of the Palais’ current use, with its total area of more than 16,000 square meters.
“Preserve the past, shape the future,” is the motto of the POK Pühringer Privatstiftung, which has transformed the Palais Coburg into not just any “common accommodation” but a true treasure of a hotel unique on the international scene. Just a few months after opening the Coburg Hotel Residence was classified with five stars and Vienna again had a new hotel in this top category for the first time in a decade. The Palais Coburg is also the only hotel in Vienna to be accepted as member of the renowned Relais & Châteaux hotel association.
In September 2011 the star-rating committee of the Professional Hotel Association of the Chamber of Commerce placed the Palais Coburg in the highest hotel ranking category. It makes the traditional Palais only the second establishment in Vienna to receive the prized 5-Star Superior classification. The thirty-four suites in the heart of Vienna offer a form of luxury unique in Austria until today, with the full range of services and comforts standard in all outstanding hotels.
The gourmet restaurant at the Palais Coburg is a place of comprehensive, contemporary dining culture. Creative interpretations of classic dishes and exceptionally composed innovations as well as subtly arranged interaction of food and wine are the main topics in the gourmet restaurant of the Palais Coburg. In 2014 the Silvio Nickol Gourmet Restaurant was awarded with two Michelin stars and 99 out of 100 Falstaff points.

Silvio Nickol currently also holds 3 Gault Millau toques and was named Gault Millau »Austrian Chef of Year 2014«.
Palais Coburg’s second restaurant was opened in March 2014. For “Clementine im Glashaus”, traditional Austrian cuisine is being interpreted in a modern way. Simple, but sophisticated. Playful, but clear. Young, but experienced. And on warm days all of this can be enjoyed in one of the most beautiful gardens in the city.
The Restaurant is named after Clementine of Orleans, the first inhabitant of the Palais Coburg in Vienna, and is situated in the historic Glasshouse in the beautiful Palais garden.
Christian Seitz, Neuschwansteiner CEO and founder said: “The ‘Palais Coburg’ is an incredible hotel in a wonderful historic building, set in a unique garden and renovated to excellence. We are very proud to announce that you can now enjoy our Neuschwansteiner at this Nr.1 Vienna address!”

Roman Nieschlag, F&B Manager Palais Coburg said: „We are very happy about the new cooperation with Neuschwansteiner! Both our houses are connected via the perfect mix of tradition and the modern world as well as the ambition to offer our guests a unique gourmet and taste experience!”
