Christening of new AIDAprima at Hamburg Harbour Anniversary Celebrations

nNeuschwansteiner-at-intergastra-bos-food-ralf-bos-websiteWe are very excited that thanks to the help of our friends and partners from BOS FOOD, we are now being served on AIDA cruise ships and very much look forward to a very special upcoming event!

Every year on the first weekend of May, the hanseatic city of Hamburg honours its harbour with a big birthday celebration (Hafengeburtstag), one of the city’s biggest events and with over 1 million visitors the world’s greatest harbour festival. The birthday has been celebrated amongst citizens since May 7 1189. It traditionally begins in the main church of St. Michaelis with the international ecumenical mass and is all happening along the almost four-kilometre-long ‘harbour mile’ along the Elbe river with fabulous fireworks and parades, including the ‘Schlepper Ballett’, where harbour tug boats ‘dance’ pirouettes to music!

During the four days of celebrations, nine cruise ships alone enter and depart the Hamburg harbour. The glorious climax of the 827th HAMBURG PORT ANNIVERSARY will be the christening of the AIDAprima on May 7th.

The new flag ship of Germany’s largest cruise ship company AIDA Cruises will for the first time open the glamorous highlight of the maritime event, the spectacular AIDA fireworks.

The AIDAprima is the 11th ship in the AIDA fleet. It is 300 metres long and 37.6 metres wide, hosting 1,643 staterooms 32 suites, 12 restaurants and 18 bars with over 900 crew members ensuring the best service for all guests.

The bars and restaurants are of course of excellent quality and we are very honoured to be served aboard!

Already in the early morning hours of May 7, 2016, AIDAprima and AIDAaura will arrive together in the port of Hamburg. AIDAprima will moor at the new Cruise Center Steinwerder. For visitors of the HAMBURG PORT ANNIVERSARY, who want to see AIDAprima at close range, AIDA Cruises will offer an hourly free-of-charge shuttle with barges between Inner Harbor South (pontoons near Baumwall) and Steinwerder.

Saturday night will mark the event’s illustrious highlight when the AIDA christening firework displays in the vicinity of Harbor Piers and turns the night sky above the Elbe into a glittering sea of color. AIDAprima will open this spectacular production against the impressive backdrop of Hamburg harbor and together with AIDAaura be part of the impressive staging. From April 30, 2016, Hamburg will be the home port for seven-day round trips to Western Europe’s most beautiful metropolises such as London, Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam. Afterwards, AIDAprima will depart for the most beautiful cities in Western Europe. Guests of AIDAaura will be setting off on an eight-day cruise to Denmark and Norway.

As the official website reads: “AIDAprima is the first ship of an entirely new AIDA product family. With creativity and great innovativeness, our team has managed to implement our high standards in terms of product quality and environmental friendliness in an exemplary and impressive way. We are extremely pleased with the successful design of the ship, and look forward to welcoming guests aboard her, who are going to be equally impressed,“ said Michael Thamm, CEO Costa Group, on the occasion of the ship’s handover.

Felix Eichhorn, President AIDA Cruises: „20 years ago, AIDA launched its concept of modern cruising. With our new flagship and the three newbuilds to follow, the company will continue to provide important growth impulses for the German cruise market. We are once again charting new territory by being the first German cruise line to offer cruises starting from Germany the whole year round. I am convinced that we will reach new guest groups with our unique variety of offerings aboard AIDAprima.“

Tall and small cruise enthusiasts can discover the AIDA world on shore in its dazzling variety in the harbor city at Marco Polo Terrassen. AIDAprima will be in the center of the theme islands. The replica of a veranda stateroom allows visitors to gain an impression of their future home on board. Visitors can also enjoy a virtual tour of the AIDA ships using digital glasses. Travel consultants will inform about the most beautiful holiday options to more than 200 destinations worldwide. Interested visitors will also have the opportunity to book their choice of cabin for the next cruise on board of one of the 11 ships of the AIDA fleet. In the family area, the youngest cruise fans are in the center of attention with plays, fun and entertainment.

During this maritime festival, the beach club HAMBURG del mar at Harbor Piers will be transformed into a world of AIDA. From here, guests have a perfect view of the fireworks and festivities on the water.
