Congratulations to Novak Djokovic: 3rd Wimbledon and 9th Grand Slam title
Fabulous Tennis World Number 1, Novak Djokovic (Serbia) managed to defend his Wimbledon title and thus win the most prestigious and important tennis tournament in the world for the third time.
He beat seven-time champion Roger Federer (Switzerland) in four sets with 7:6, 6:7, 6:4 and 6:3 saving six of seven break points. Djokovic explained: “It is a big challenge to play against Roger, he makes you work hard, push your limits!”
The 15,000 spectators on the Centre Court witnessed a 2 hours 55 minutes gripping match between the currently two best tennis players in the world, much cheering in the stands and an emotional Djokovic. A short rain delay could not disturb his play, after which he threw his arms up happily, whilst his wife Jelena and his coach, former German Wimbledon Champion, Boris Becker celebrated in the grand stands.
This is the ninth grand Slam title for Djokovic, who kissed and held the golden trophy up in the air and complimented the greenkeeper: “As a child you dream of winning Wimbledon and doing something crazy. To eat the grass is a tradition- it tasted very very good this year, they have done a very good job!”
