Deep inside the ancient forests of Bavaria, and surrounded by the sublime scenery of the Alps, arises the source of Neuschwansteiner. Based on the traditional recipe of “Edelmärzen”, Neuschwansteiner is a full-bodied, luxurious beer. Edelmärzen was previously only brewed in March (hence the name) and with a higher alcohol content to increase its longevity. For storage, ice blocks were cut also close to the castle at the Alpsee in the winter in order to keep the beer cool during the hot summer months. Edelmärzen was very popular back then at the court of Ludwig II. Today Neuschwansteiner is brewed - as an homage to Neuschwanstein Castle – in Schwangau, in the immediate vicinity of the castle.
